Gordon Brookhart has been in the financial services industry since 1981, beginning his career of helping others with Waddell & Reed Financial Services in Lafayette, Indiana. He was first a registered representative and then promoted to division manager. In 1984, Gordon earned the designation of CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ 

During his nine-year tenure, in addition to building a financial planning practice of more than 300 clients, he conducted over 150 adult education classes and money management seminars in financial planning, as well as countless training sessions for the representatives he hired. It was also during this time period that Gordon served a one-year position at Purdue University, his alma mater, as an instructor in the Financial Planning Department.

In 1990, Gordon relocated to Westerville, Ohio, a suburb of the state’s capitol, Columbus. He joined the mutual fund organization within the Nationwide® enterprise, then known as Nationwide Financial Services. He has since been a part of several other financial services organizations, serving various roles which have given Gordon a very unique perspective of a dynamic and ever-evolving industry.

In August 2002, Gordon published an article in Personal Excellence titled "Manage Your Debt" in which he described eight action steps to improve one's debt situation (click here for article's PDF).


In March 2005, another article written by Gordon titled "Build More Wealth" was published in the same magazine. This article included 11 tips to help the reader accumulate greater wealth (click here for article's PDF).

His current role is serving as an investment specialist in a local firm, where he is able to combine his passion for investments and training with his desire to "make a difference in the financial lives of others." At the same time, Gordon is able to work on building his financial planning practice by working with individuals and families.

In addition to his day job and his passion for writing, Gordon's an adjunct faculty member of Franklin University and Ohio Dominican University in Columbus, Ohio. At Franklin, he teaches classes offered by the Finance Department. So far, these have included a “Financial Planning Seminar” and “Retirement Planning.” At Ohio Dominican, Gordon teaches in the Learning Enhanced Adult Degree (LEAD) program where he teaches “Personal Finance.”

Gordon was a member of the Financial Planning Association (FPA) from 1982 to 2007. He served as a Board member of the FPA of Central Ohio from 1993 to 2000 and 2003 to 2006. He is past president of the local chapter, having led the association during the 1997-1998 chapter year.

Gordon has been married to his high school sweetheart, Tammy, since 1976. They are the proud parents of four sons--Brandon, Brent, Bradley and Bryant. Gordon is an avid runner and a track official.
